Prior to 1970, linguistic research by SIL members was tagmemically oriented, stimulated by Kenneth L. The continuing volume of SIL's published research provides a highly reliable and therefore invaluable database for others whose interests are purely theoretical. The primary goal of SIL is translation of the New Testament, but a necessary subsidiary goal is a detailed linguistic analysis of the speech variety under study. The members of this organization are working in over 50 Philippine languages, from Ivatan in the north to Samal in the south. Summer Institute of Linguistics, Philippines The Philippine Branch of the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) has been most effective in developing linguistic research in the Philippines. Further, researches on the linguistic and literary perspectives of Philippine English and prospects for future endeavors in Philippine linguistics form part in this humble work. The linguistic researches under the following categories: grammars and dictionaries phonology, morphology and syntax sentence, paragraph, and discourse and comparative-historical are also included in this paper to give the different frames of linguistics in the Philippines. This paper presents the different organizations/linguistic agencies local and abroad which started the exciting journey toward linguistics-the discovery of the different faces of the Philippine linguistics leading to the proliferation of researches in consonance with the previously done researches to discover more and more forms of faces through analysis. Some researches have been conducted by a growing body of scholars abroad whose research interests have led them to study Philippine languages because of the complicated twists and turns that excite most foreign authors besides local authors. Researches emerged over the years in the field of Linguistics in the Philippines where Filipino and foreign researchers investigate languages over the last decade. This alone makes the journey to modern day Filipino is filled with twists and turns.
Distinct features of Philippine English include of phonology, word choice, syntactic construction, discourse patterns that have attracted the attention of many linguists both at home and abroad. As reported in the Journal of Language Studies (2013), the Philippines boasts the third largest English-speaking country in the world.
